# Trading Fees on Jua Predictions: How They Are Calculated

> Learn how trading fees work on Jua Predictions: when they apply, how they're calculated, and what balance types can be used to pay them.

Every trade on Jua Predictions incurs a small platform fee. Fees keep the platform running and are straightforward — you always see the exact amount before you confirm a trade, so there are no surprises. This page explains how fees are calculated, when they are charged, and which parts of your balance can cover them.

## How Fees Work

The platform fee is a **percentage of your trade value** (the total USDC you spend on a trade). The exact percentage is set by the platform operator and may vary over time.

* **Shown upfront** — The fee amount is displayed in the order confirmation summary every time you place a trade, before you click Confirm. You can see the gross trade value, the fee deducted, and the net shares you will receive.
* **Deducted at trade time** — Fees are taken from your balance at the moment the trade executes. For house orders, that is immediately when you confirm. For limit orders, the fee is charged at the moment each fill occurs — not when you place the order.
* **Non-refundable** — Once a trade has executed and a fee has been charged, that fee cannot be returned, even if you later sell your position or if the market resolves against you.

## What Covers Fees

Jua Predictions supports two types of account balance: **cash balance** (real funds you have deposited) and **promo balance** (bonus credits awarded through promotions). Only your cash balance can be used to pay trading fees.

| Balance type | Pays fees? | Buys shares? |
| ------------- | ---------- | ------------ |
| Cash balance  | ✅ Yes      | ✅ Yes        |
| Promo balance | ❌ No       | ✅ Yes        |

If you do not have sufficient cash balance to cover the fee on a trade — even if you have ample promo balance — the trade will not go through. Make sure you have enough cash balance available before placing a trade funded primarily by promo credits.

## Refunds

Trading fees are non-refundable under normal circumstances. However, if a market is **cancelled or voided** by the platform (for example, if the underlying event cannot be resolved), the treatment is as follows:

* Your **trade principal** — the stake amount minus any fees already paid — is returned to your cash balance.
* The **fee itself is not returned**; it was earned by the platform at the time the trade executed.

In short, a cancelled market returns what you staked net of fees, not your full gross deposit.

<Tip>
  Always read the fee summary in the order confirmation dialog before clicking Confirm. It shows the exact fee amount for that specific trade, so you know precisely what you're paying before any funds move.

## Frequently Asked Questions

<Accordion title="Are fees charged on limit orders?">
  Yes, but the fee is charged **when the order fills**, not when you place it. If you place a limit order and it sits in the order book unfilled, no fee is deducted. Each time a (partial) fill occurs, the corresponding fee for that filled portion is deducted from your cash balance at that moment.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="What happens to my fee if I cancel a limit order?">
  Nothing — because no fee has been charged yet. Fees are only deducted on fills. If you cancel an open limit order before it fills, you owe no fee at all. If your order was partially filled before you cancelled, you owe the fee only on the portion that was already matched; the unfilled remainder incurs no charge.
</Accordion>

<Accordion title="Do promotional balances pay fees?">
  No. Promotional (promo) balance can be used to purchase shares, but it cannot cover trading fees. Fees must always be paid from your cash balance. If your cash balance is insufficient to cover the fee — regardless of your promo balance — the trade will be blocked until you top up your cash balance.
